How to Stop Furniture From Sliding on Hardwood Floors
Furniture that slides on hardwood floors can scratch and damage the floors. There are many items that have been made to prevent the damage before it happens. You will have to choose the technique that you prefer. Some of those techniques include using rubber disks and cutting pieces of shag carpet to place under the furniture.
- Use rubber disks to put under the foot of the furniture. They can be purchased at your local home improvement or hardware store. They are simply placed between the foot on the furniture and hardwood floor.
- Cut small patches from a shag carpet using a craft knife. The patches should be slightly bigger than the bottom of the furniture leg. The top of the shag carpet should face down while the backing face up. Place it between the leg of the furniture and hardwood floor in this position.
- Purchase furniture sliders from your local home improvement or hardware store. The sliders are secured at an angle on the bottom of the furniture leg. You can use almost any angle to attach the furniture slider.
- Trim the furniture piece over. Cut out rubber cabinet liners to fit the bottom of the furniture legs. Apply wood glue to the bottom of the furniture leg and place the cabinet liner in the glue. Allow the glue to dry before turning the furniture over. Use metal glue or Super Glue depending on the type of furniture you have.
