How to Spray Paint Wicker Furniture

Spray painting wicker can completely change the way the furniture looks. One of the best things about wicker is that it can be painted many different times. It takes awhile to do a quality spray painting job, but it is worth the effort to make the wicker furniture look like new again.

  1. Decide what color you want to spray paint your wicker furniture. Look through home magazines or online to get ideas for the color to use. Choose a color that will match or enhance the other items that you have in the room where you use the wicker furniture.

  2. Buy the supplies that you need to spray paint the furniture. Go to a paint supply or home improvement store and ask a clerk for help finding the right materials. Remember to buy some small brushes in addition to the spray cans to use for areas that the spray paint does not completely cover.

  3. Place the wicker furniture on a level surface. Use a garage or a patio to do the spray painting job. If you are going to paint outside, check the weather first to make sure it is not too windy. Place a tarp under the furniture, so you do not get any paint on the surface that is underneath it.

  4. Check over the furniture to see if you need to sand any rough edges. Wipe down the furniture with an old cloth to remove any surface dirt. Use warm water and a sponge if there are stains on the furniture that you need to remove.

  5. Read the instructions on the spray can before you begin to paint the furniture. Apply multiple coats of paint if the furniture does not look the way you want after the first coat. Use a small brush to spread the paint over the areas that the spray paint does not cover. Let the chair dry, and then touch it up with the spray can or a brush, if necessary.
