How to Sell a Minivan

There are many ways to sell a minivan that the vehicle owner should consider. Trading the vehicle in at a car dealership is the easiest way to sell the minivan; however, the owner may not get a good price. Selling the van to a private owner can take more time, but the owner may be able to get a better price for the vehicle.

  1. Look online to determine the value of your minivan so you can set the asking price. Use a search engine to look for a used car valuation website. Navigate through the website to find your minivan. Look for the “Retail” price on the valuation report and use that as the asking price for your minivan.

  2. Clean the minivan before you try to sell it, so it will look good to a potential buyer. A buyer will want to look under the hood of the vehicle, so consider hiring an auto detailing service to clean the engine. You can have the service detail the entire van if you do not have time to do the work yourself.

  3. Put an advertisement in your local newspaper to help sell the minivan. Look at current ads in the paper to see which ones catch your eye, then customize your own ad. Find out how much the advertisement costs so you can decide what you want to include in your ad.

  4. Use the Internet to help you sell your minivan. There are many websites that list vehicles for sale that you can find using a search engine. Look at minivan listings on a website to get an idea of what to include in your own listing. Contact the website for help setting up your listing and make sure to find out the cost.

  5. Negotiate with a potential buyer who contacts you. Depending on the buyer’s offer, you may be able to sell your minivan by coming down slightly off of the “Retail” value in the report you found online. Do not necessarily sell your minivan to the first buyer, since you may receive additional offers.
