How to Select Decor for Your Cottage-Style Home

If you have a cottage-style home, you obviously want to choose the correct decor to enhance space. Most people think of cottages as cozy and uncomplicated; sort of getting back to the simpler things in life and making home the central point of the family. The decor is not just charming but each piece can enhance the other giving you and your family a great space to call home.

  1. Choose
accessories for your cottage-style home such as antiques,
vases, and even vintage dishes. To create the perfect cottage-style
space, look to draw several pieces of furnishings and
decoration from an older generation. Keep in mind the home can have
modern amenities, but how it is decorated makes a cozy and warm feeling.

  2. Choose
natural colors along with furniture that has a distressed look. You
can choose antiqued pieces or even newer ones that have been specifically
made to look old. You should have some amount of wicker
in your cottage-style space.  All of these together create a
    feeling of relaxation and simplicity.

  3. Use wood or brick walls to bring out the features of the cottage
home. For instance, you can stain wood in order to give it an older
look. Exposed brick that is in good shape doesn't need any work, it
is going to warm up the room and bring the old feeling to a modern
    environment.

  4. Choose
floral patterns for furniture covers or accent your sofa with
pillows that have floral designs. Place dried flowers in antiqued
vases around the home along with a wire wine basket.  Pillar
candles are a must-have to really warm up the home.

  5. Install
hardwood floors if you have the budget for it since this creates a
very homey feeling along with the natural color-scheme. If
you cannot afford new floors, choose warm colored throw rugs to
cover the floors. Choose lace window curtains-- remember keep the
natural theme throughout-- no loud or dark colors. With a little bit
of effort, you can turn your cottage-style home into a welcoming  haven that has elements from the past while being sophisticated and
    modern.
