Where to Find Home Phone Service Providers

How to Save Money on Your Home Phone Service

Home phone service is a necessity for many people. Instead of spending a ton of money on a simple phone line there are several things you can do to cut back on the expense. Some of these money saving ideas only require a simple phone call.

Shaving your monthly expenses down does require some thought and time, but with a few minutes on your hand you may be able to save a substantial amount on your home phone bills.

  • Check to see if you can bundle your services. If you are paying for satellite television and cable Internet, it makes sense to see if your cable company can give you a deal for television, phone and Internet services. Cable phone services are much cheaper and usually offer more options and services for far less than traditional landline phones.

  • Check your phone bill carefully. Look for services you may not be using. For instance, if you don't spend a lot on long distance calls you may be able to change your plan to eliminate this entirely. Many people use cell phones anyhow, and if you time it right you can make your long distance calls on the cell phone without paying an extra fee. Also look for services like call forwarding or advanced call blocking that may cost more and cut those out of your plan.

  • Shop around. If other phone companies are offering specials you may be able to get your current phone provider to offer the same deal, or even beat it. You'll need to have a good history with your current phone company and be nice when you ask. Demanding won't get you anywhere.

  • Look in your wallet. You may qualify for discounts through various memberships you may hold. For example, members of AARP may qualify for discounted service through certain providers. You may even be eligible for discounts through your employer or even through credit cards you hold.
