How to Run a Computer on Solar Power

Fifty years ago computers were barely making an impression on the market. Since then computers have come and long way, and are a part of everyday life. People are not figuring out how to operate their computers via solar power and energy. There are hundreds of companies offering their help to people who want to run their computer with solar power.

Solar powered companies strive to provide their customers with the best solar powered technology available. There are many choices when it comes to deciding how to run a computer with solar power energy. Most times the way you choose to run your computer with solar power will be based off of the company.

  • Find a company like Solatron Technologies that offers a unique way to power a computer with solar power. Solatron’s world famous device known as "Solar Home" claims to be the world's first electric solar system. That simply means it can run your computer without electricity. The system is pricey but claims to be well worth the price, if you consider the savings over time. The system can also be used for power outage backup for other electrical items.

  • Discover the amount of solar panels that will be needed. It takes a certain amount of electricity to run a computer, so discovering the amount of energy needed is important. You will most likely need a durable, high efficiency, lightweight solar panel to help fulfill your needs. Several of these solar panels will be needed to get the most electricity to the solar powered computer. Most panels are now lightweight and plastic instead of being made out of heavy material, like metal and aluminum.

  • Buy other essential parts to run your computer with solar power.  Those parts include a charger, 12-volt battery and an AC to DC converter.

  • Connect the parts together. The solar panel will need to be connected to the solar charge controller, assuming the plugs are provided. Connect the charge controller to the battery, and allow the solar panel to charge the battery until it is completely charged. Different plugs will be needed depending on the battery being used. Attach the correct invertors to the battery using red and black battery clips. The inverter will then be used to plug in the computer cord and then eventually to turn on the computer.
