How to Restore my Computer Desktop Shortcut
On a computer there are shortcuts placed where they are easy to see for easy access. Shortcuts for games, files, folders and Internet pages can be installed onto a desktop for the user to get into quickly with little to no hassle. Deleting one by mistake can create a goose chase leading nowhere.
Of all the things that can go missing on a desktop, the "my computer" shortcut should not be one. Hunting down a shortcut that used to be on the desktop is not an easy task. Restoring a deleted My Computer shortcut is easy.
- First, find the start button. This button should be located somewhere at the bottom left of the desktop. The desktop is what a user sees on the monitor after turning on the computer and before clicking on any of the shortcuts presented.
- Clicking on the start button should open a little window. On this window there is a list of items. One of those items usually says Control Panel. This control panel helps with maintenance, personalization, Internet connections and much more.
- Left clicking on the control panel option will bring up a control panel page. On this page there are several options from which to choose. An option to Personalize should be one. Left click on that.
- There should be even more option under this heading, the one needed is "Change Desktop Icons", left click on it. Check "computer", left click on "Ok", and the shortcut for "My Computer" should be restored.
This can be done with any shortcut on the desktop. If an icon is deleted by accident, the best place to find it would be in the recycle bin. This icon holds deleted items for a certain amount of time or when the user chooses to empty it. Left click on the recycle bin icon and an accidentally deleted shortcut should be listed among all the other trash. Clicking on it will allow the user to restore it with no problem.
