How to Restore Etched Auto Glass
When auto glass is exposed to hard water or sharp objects, etching occurs. This is because the surface of the glass is fine until the objects come into contact with it. The damage can interfere with your ability to see the road. You can easily restore the damage yourself and save money.
Materials Needed
- Restoration polish for glass
- Buffing pad for glass
- Glass cleaner
- Cloth
- Water
- Squeegee
- Locate all of the areas that have damage. The best solution is to cover the entire auto glass to keep from missing any areas.
- Open the glass restoration polish. Add some of the polish to a buffing pad. The buffing pad should be made for auto glass. Only apply an amount the size of a dime when you first start using the polish. You can use more if needed.
- Place the pad in one corner of the auto glass and begin rubbing in circular motions. Work across the glass. Move down to the next row and apply the polish until the entire auto glass is complete.
- Coat the glass with a layer of glass cleaner. Use a soft cloth to clean the glass. Remove as much of the glass restoration polish as possible.
- Fill a spray bottle with warm water and spray it over the glass. Use the squeegee to remove the water. Rub the glass with a dry cloth to polish it to a shine. Allow the glass to dry. Inspect the glass for any etching damage. Repeat the process if it is needed.
