How to Repair an HP Computer
The first Hewlett Packard (HP) computer was released in 1966. Hewlett-Packard offers several different computer models, and troubleshooting issues with a certain model is easy by following specific criteria. Before fixing the HP computer, review the owner's manual and familiarize yourself with the operating system the computer uses.
- If your HP computer is not working correctly the first thing to always try is restarting the machine. Click on the “Start” flag at the bottom left hand of the screen and then click the arrow and “Restart.” Once the computer has restarted see if the problem is corrected.
- Run the virus software and correct any problems that arise. Viruses can cause the computer to perform in an unusual way.
- Close all programs running on the computer.
- Click the “Start” button, and then select “All Programs, then click “PC Help & Tools” and then “Hardware” option, and “Ok” to continue.
- Click the “Alerts” showing at the top of the hardware diagnostic tools window. If no alerts are displayed proceed to the next step.
- Click the “Test” button. Allow the computer to complete the testing.
- When the test is complete follow the directions given to correct the problem. If no issues are found proceed to the next step.
- Click “Start” and select “All Programs," then click the “Backup/Recovery” option and create a backup disc with all of your personal music, documents, pictures, and other important files.
- Once the backup is completed, click “Recover” and select a previous backup on the hard drive or recover the the HP computer to factory condition.
- If all else fails, try ripping the power cord out, let everything shut down for a minute or two, and try again.
