How to Repair a Compaq Computer
Compaq computers are widely used for both home and business. A Compaq computer will usually provide quality service. At times, something might go wrong, so knowing how to repair your own computer can save money. The price of computer services can be expensive. In certain cases the cost of repair could be more than the price of a new PC.
Things you will need to repair a Compaq computer:
- Compressed air
- Log on the computer and right-click the "My Computer" option. Pick "Properties" from the list and select the "Hardware" tab.
- Click on the "Device Manager" button to look at the list of the hardware devices that are in the Compaq computer. Search for yellow question marks or red exclamation points. Those will indicate something is not working right.
- Right-click the problem devices and select the "Update Driver" option. This will make the operating system download and install a new driver.
- Turn off the computer and open the computer case. For nearly all of Compaq PCs, the case release lever is on the top of the computer or on the two tabs located on the side of the computer. When it comes to tower designs, the lever will be located on the side. Press the lever and pull off the case cover.
- Examine the area that is surrounding the power supply. This is where the power cord is hooked to the computer. The fan that operates in this area will draw dust and dirt in the room, and the dust can accumulate in the computer case. The buildup can block the fan and make the computer to overheat, which will cause poor performance and shutdowns.
- Get a can of compressed air and get rid of the dust and dirt in the case. Be sure all of the dirt and dust is out of the case. You will then be able to replace the case and turn your computer on. At this point your computer should be ready to function properly.
