How to Remove Sunless Tanning Lotion

Sunless tanning lotions can look great on your skin and are a way to get a sun-kissed look quickly and without the harmful UV rays of the sun. While they can look great if done right they can also streak, splotch and leave you with orange feet and hands.

  • Exfoliate the affected area using a loofah and body scrub. A homemade paste of baking soda mixed 1/2 and half with table salt and a little lemon juice will also act as a great natural exfoliate. Apply to your loofah, scrub your skin and rinse it off. Use a pumice stone on your feet, elbows and other rough areas for the best results.

  • Reach in your medicine or kitchen cabinet for the cure. Apply straight lemon juice or rubbing alcohol to a cotton swab and rub it on the area that you are trying to remove. Both of these products will help to dissolve the tanner on your skin.

  • Purchase a commercial product. There are many commercial products on the market such as body bleach that can be used to remove sunless tanner from your hands, feet, fingernails or toenails. There are several other products that can be purchased in lotion or towelette form that contain natural ingredients that will also remove the tanner. Follow the directions on the product and make sure that you test a small patch of skin first to avoid skin irritation.

  • Look in your garage. Orange Goop or other degreasers that most household mechanics have on hand will also assist in exfoliating the affected area and removing the tanner. These can be abrasive and need to be used with primarily on your hands and feet.
