How to Put Performance Parts in the Saturn SL1
The Saturn SL1 is a daily driver car. There is nothing special about the car that putting performance parts into it would change. Adding performance parts to an SL1 will not yield many performance gains, and there are not even many available.
- Park the car on a flat surface where it is out of the way of traffic. Be sure to put the car in park and pull the emergency brake to make doubly sure that it is not going to move on you. Pop the hood on the car and disconnect the black wire from the battery.
- Push down on the tabs that hold the top of the air intake in. Pull the air intake out of the box and unbolt the bottom bolt of the box. Unscrew the O-ring of the air intake tube and push it back so that it won't fall off. Pull the old filter and bottom of the box out by hand.
- Install the new performance air intake by sliding the tube into the down pipe. Re-tighten the O-ring onto the performance air intake tube and bolt it down before sliding in the air filter and replacing the top of the box.
This is about the extent that will create better performance for the Saturn SL1. While changing the air filter may not provide much of a performance difference, it will run a little smoother because the car will be getting more air into the engine to keep it cool. This car is not meant for racing or other than daily driving.
