How to Play Memory Games With Seniors

As you age, the ability to remember things wanes. The telephone number that we knew like the back of our hand is no longer with us. This is a startling revelation for many of us, and most people become very concerned. Memory games will help slow this process down.

Some simple games that will help with your memory are:

Get two groups together and have a contest to see who can remember the most musical artists or name of the song when played. Someone needs to introduce the song and ask a question, such as, "Do you remember the name of this musical artist?" Other clues may be given as well about the artist, such as "Who was his partner during this song?" Give one point for each correct answer and see which side will win.

Sit in a large circle. The first person will whisper a sentence in someone's ear, such as "My mom makes great apple pies in the fall." That person will, in turn, repeat what was said to her to the person on her left side. This continues around the circle until they reach the original sentence maker. Some very strange sentences come back to the beginning of the circle. Most do not make sense or have either added to or taken away from the first sentence.

Obtain information about what the prices were like back when they were younger. As about normal every day products, such as bread, milk, and eggs. Compare what the prices are like now for each of these. This is not only good for their memory, but the enjoy talking about "when they were young."
