How to Paint Rooms Indoors With Rust Oleum in the Winter

If you are going to be painting an indoor room with Rust Oleum paint during the winter, you will need to prepare the space where you are going to be painting and wear appropriate clothing that will keep you warm. It is essential to properly ventilate the room where you are painting, even when it is cold outside.

  1. Dress in warm clothing that is warm enough to keep you protected from the cold outside air while still allowing you the ability to move around comfortably.

  2. Open the windows in the indoor room where you are going to be painting. Even though it is cold outside, you still need to have the windows open while you are painting so that you are not breathing in the paint fumes.

  3. Apply painter's tape to the trim as well as any other areas that you would like to protect such as outlets and light switch covers. You should use a painter’s tape that is at least 2 inches wide.

  4. Pour the Rust Oleum paint in the color of your choice into a clean paint tray.

  5. Apply a roller sleeve to a standard paint roller.

  6. Use a paint brush to cut in the trim, corners and any other areas that you are not able to thoroughly reach with a paint roller.

  7. Dip the paint roller sleeve into the paint and roll it around a few times to ensure that the entire surface of the roller has an even amount of paint on it.

  8. Roll the Rust Oleum paint onto the walls in a thin and even coat.

  9. Allow the first coat of paint to dry for about an hour or until it is dry to the touch.

  10. Apply a second coat of paint using the paint roller following the same application process as you used to apply the first coat.

  11. Allow the paint to dry for a few hours and then inspect the surface of the paint to see if there are any areas that need to be touched up.

  12. Touch up any streaks that you see using a standard paint brush.
