How to Paint Front Door Windows
Materials Needed
- Spray Bottle
- Putty knife
- Denatured alcohol
- Cloth
- 100 grit sandpaper
- Painter’s tape
- Knife
- Primer
- Silicone caulk
- Paint
- Paint stirrer
- Look over the window to see if there is caulk or glaze on it. Fill a spray bottle with water. Take a putty knife and remove the caulk or glaze. Place the blade of the putty knife flat on the window to avoid any scratches. Spray the water from the spray bottle on the caulk or glaze as you try to remove it.
- Apply denatured alcohol to a clean cloth. Make sure you apply enough to clean the trim. Clean the trim and all the areas around with the alcohol soaked cloth.
- Use 100 grit sandpaper to sand the trim. Go against the grain as you sand the area. Use a damp cloth to remove any dust particles.
- Apply painter’s tape to the glass so the paint does not get on it. Rub your hand over the tape to make sure there are no air bubbles. Trim the edges of the tape with a knife.
- Apply a coat of primer to the door. Make sure the primer is the correct one for the type of window trim you have. Allow the primer to completely dry according to the directions on the primer.
- Place silicone caulk in all of the gaps. Allow the caulk to dry for five hours. Open a can of paint and blend it with a paint stirrer. Apply the paint to the window with a paintbrush. Next, apply the paint to the entire door. Allow the coat of paint to dry for one hour. Apply a second coat and allow it to completely dry for 48 hours. Remove the tape.
