How to Organize for After-School Tutoring Programs

After school tutoring programs need proper organization to run efficiently. Organization of your area, all materials and even time can be essential in providing the best education assistance possible. With proper organization, after school tutoring programs help struggling students excel at school.

  • Create a specific educational plan for each student that you tutor. Include proper activities and games for each subject the student needs help understanding better. Students often need help with their homework too, so schedule adequate time with each student.

  • Keep all lessons and paperwork in a portable file folder or carrying case. Mini, portable file cabinets roll behind you on wheels, so all needed paperwork remains at hand throughout the day. Keep billing paperwork in a separate container from your lesson plans. Billing paperwork should remain in a safe, secure location because it likely contains private information about your clients.

  • Meet students in a clean, well-lit environment with little to no distractions. Keep your work area neat and tidy to remove remaining distractions from the learning environment. The work area should be at a height that discourages slouching. Outfit the work area with comfortable chairs that are adjustable in height. Comfortable chairs encourage students to focus for longer periods.

  • Students may often forget materials such as paper and pencils, so keep a large supply on you at all times. Younger students enjoy using crayons, markers and colored pencils to complete fun learning based projects. Be sure to bring extra blank paper.
