How to Market a Self-Publish Book

Marketing a self-published book takes getting to know the right people. You will need to put yourself out there and in a way, sell yourself at various places. You can choose to do it all online, but getting out in public and talking to people is the best marketing tool you have.

Marketing your own work can be challenging, but if you get creative and have some good friends willing to help, you can do it and do well at it.

  • Use the Internet. Create a Facebook fan page, blog about it, share with your friends, ask them to tweet and share the links. This method has a far-reaching potential.

  • Set up dates with locally owned bookstores and coffee houses to show up with your books and sign them. Many places love to have local authors come in and promote their books.

  • Give a copy to local shop owners and ask if they would be willing to help sell your book.

  • Set up a booth at local farmer's or craft markets.

  • Sell your book online. It is easy to add a PayPal button to your blog or Facebook and sell online.

  • Work with your local library. Give them a free copy or two and offer to come in one night or day and talk with patrons.

Marketing your self-published work is about you getting out there and letting people know how great your work is. They will not know unless you show them. Once people hear what you are doing, they will help and they will talk about it and tell their friends. Word of mouth is a powerful tool.
