How to Make Seven Layer Salads
A seven layer salad is a great dish to take to a picnic or potluck. It is easy to make and always a crowd pleaser. Making a seven layer salad requires layering all of the ingredients rather than mixing them, for a salad that tastes as good as it looks.
Prepare
- Gather a tall glass serving bowl to layer the ingredients in.
- Gather a head of lettuce, 1 red onion, 2 tomatoes, a 10-ounce package of frozen peas that have been thawed, 2 cups of mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons of sugar, cheddar cheese and 8 slices of bacon.
- Cook the bacon and crumble it after it has drained.
- Chop the lettuce, tomato and onions.
- Place a layer of lettuce on the bottom of the serving bowl.
- Cover the lettuce with a layer of onions.
- Add a layer of tomatoes followed by a layer of peas.
- Stir together the mayonnaise and the sugar.
- Cover the salad with a layer of mayonnaise.
- Spread a layer of cheese over the top of the mayonnaise.
- Cover with a layer of crumbled bacon.
Tips
- Try adding a layer of chopped ham or eggs on top instead of bacon.
- Switch one of the ingredients for another favorite ingredient, such as peppers.
- Use your favorite salad dressing in place of the mayonnaise.
- Make a southwest version of the salad by layering lettuce, black beans, tomatoes, chopped onions, black olives, sour cream mixed with salsa and cheese.
- Cover the top of the southwest layered salad with tortilla strips or crushed tortilla strips.
