How to Make Maternity Clothes
As your body grows along with your soon-to-be baby, you'll need to increase your wardrobe to include maternity clothes. It isn't necessary to spend a lot of money on maternity clothes. You can make your own personalized maternity wear in your own home!
Items Needed for Maternity Jeans:
- A pair of jeans
- Stretchy fabric
- Needle
- Thread
- Take the pair of jeans and unbutton and unzip them.
- Place the stretchy fabric in front of the jeans, covering the entire zipper area. Depending on the look you like, you can stretch the fabric all the way to the back or let it stop at the sides of the jeans.
- Sew the fabric onto the pants with the needle and tread. Make sure the fabric is secure to the jeans. If you have a sewing machine, you can use it to sew the fabric to the jeans.
- Wear your jeans!
Items Needed for Maternity Dress:
- Stretchy Fabric- enough to make a dress that covers your body
- Fabric Pen
- Needle
- Thread
- Scissors
- Decorations (ribbons, glitter, etc...)
- Fold the stretchy fabric in half, inside out and lay on a flat surface.
- Using the fabric pen draw a shape of a simple dress that will fit your body slightly snug. You can use a dress you already have to lay on the fabric and trace around. Since the fabric is stretchy it will form to your pregnant body therefore it does not have to perfect.
- Cut the fabric with the scissors around the traced line you made with the fabric pen.
- Using the needle and thread sew both sides of the dress and at top in between the arms and neckline. Remember to leave holes for your arms and neck. If you prefer, you can use a sewing machine.
- Turn the dress inside out.
- Add decorations. This could be as simple as a pinned fabric flower or as elaborate as multiple rhinestones or sequence. Place the decorations in a style you find attractive.
- Wear your maternity dress!
