- Locate the Department of Social Services (DSS) in your area. Many times the organization can give clients a listing of different landlords in their area that rent to seniors at an affordable rate. Elderly individual who are registered with the Department of Social Services may qualify for help with other needs such as heat and food.
- Contact private agencies in your community. Many churches and other private agencies help elderly individuals find affordable housing. Many churches may be able to provide you with a list of private agencies in the area.
- Call the Habitat for Humanity in your area. If you are looking to own your own home and qualify, you may be able to receive a home through the organization. One of the qualifications is that individuals be able to put in a certain amount of hours to help building their own home.
- Ask friends, neighbors and family members if they know of any affordable housing in the area. Many times people find housing by asking others. Many people rent out different properties they may have acquired by relatives or investments. You may end up finding the perfect location to live. Most people like to rent to individuals who do not have a lot of children around. Elderly individuals often make the best tenants.
