How to Learn to Detail Car Interior
Learning to detail your own car can save you money. You may be intimidated by the process but do not worry, it is not that difficult. Simply remove the garbage, and vacuum and shampoo the interior as well as polish and shine your dash. This process is not as time consuming as it sounds, and it will save you a lot of money over the expensive car detailing rates.
- Remove all trash from your car and place into a garbage bag; dispose of in the nearest garbage container. Remove floor mats and set aside for later.
- Remove any items from your car that do not belong in your car, but are not garbage such as household items and place them in a separate bag to bring in the house.
- Wet a rag, and remove excess water by ringing out the rag. You want your rag to be moist but not wet. Wipe down the interior of your car. Focus on hard surfaces such as your dash and interior door panels. You may also want to wipe down your interior if you have leather seats.
- Check under seats, on seat back pockets and inside of doors for any remaining garbage that you may have missed and discard of in the nearest garbage can.
- Vacuum out your car’s interior, focusing on the larger items; you will be vacuuming out your car again after you have shampooed the carpets.
- Shampoo your carpets with a handheld carpet cleaner. You may want to use a deodorizing product for your carpet to remove any tough smells such as smoke or other strong orders.
- Allow the interior carpet time to dry thoroughly. You should leave the doors open during the drying process to allow for proper ventilation, this will aid in the drying process and help your interior to dry faster.
- Vacuum out the car’s interior again, this time in a more thorough manner removing all loose dirt and debris from your carpet.
- Vacuum your car mats thoroughly, and then spray with an air freshener or deodorizing product. Replace the mats into your car.
- Apply a leather and vinyl cleaner to your interior, polishing your car to a clean and shiny finish.
- Clean the windows with a vinegar and water combination. Fill a spray bottle three-quarters of the way full with water, and then add a half-cup of vinegar and secure the top. Shake the mixture to allow adequate blending of the water and vinegar. Use this vinegar cleaner to clean your windows and then dry the windows to a clean and streak-free finish with dry newspaper.
