How to Keep a Pool Cover On
Pool covers are an import element in protecting your pool. It is important to select a cover which meets your needs. Pool covers are generally available in different types from a solid tarp to mesh. Regardless of the cover you choose, if it doesn't remain on the pool it won't do it's job. Here's how to install a cover.
Supplies
- Measuring tape
- Pool cover
- Winch
- Deck brackets
- Drill
- Screws
Above the Ground Pool
- Measure your pool.
- Purchase a cover. The cover should be at least four feet greater in length and width of your pool.
- Pull the cover over the pool. Fold the edges of the cover over the sides.
- Lace the cable provided with the pool cover through the cover's grommet system.
- Use the winch to tighten the cable and pull the cover down securely around the pool's sides.
- Tie the cable when the cover is tight. This will prevent the cover from being blown off during high winds.
- Remove the winch.
In Ground Pool
- Measure the pool with your tape measure.
- Purchase your cover. The cover should be four feet wider than the length and width of your pool.
- Use the drill and screws to install the recessed deck brackets, which will serve as cover anchors around the perimeter of the pool.
- Place the cover over the pool. Make sure the straps each correspond with the recessed deck brackets.
- Thread the pool cover's built in straps through the deck brackets. Since each strap is attached to a spring, which tightens the cover to a taut position when installed on all perimeters, the cover remains securely in place even during excessive winds.
