How to Install an Acura MDX Auxiliary

Using an FM modulator to install an Acura MDX auxiliary is the better choice of the two options because the modulator creates a direct path to the stereo, which means better sound in the long run. The more reliable connections will be through this path as well.

You will need:

  • Removal tool for the panel

  • Screwdriver, Phillips head

  • Adapter for the wiring harness

  • FM modulator

  • A wrench

  1. Get under the hood and loosen the battery cables. Make sure the negative terminal to the battery is resting well away from anything that might cause a charge.

  2. Use the removal tool to take off the trim panel to get underneath the dash. Make sure the tool does not scratch or dent the surface by using a rag or cloth to protect the blade of the removal tool. The trim panel should be set where it is within easy reach, but not hindering your work.

  3. Use the Phillip's head screwdriver to remove any screws from the stereo unit already in the car. Remember to disconnect any wires from the stereo and place them where they can be easily reached.

  4. Use the adapter for the wiring harness to connect the existing wires or lead in the vehicle. All modulators and wiring harnesses come with instructions. Make sure to keep the instruction manual handy when doing repair to a vehicle or replacing one part with another.

  5. Use the glove compartment to run the modulator's input wire or cable. The modulator should be placed in the mounting dock the factory stereo just came out of. Make sure to slide the FM modulator into place.

  6. Replace the trim panel and the screws. Everything should click in to place properly when finished.

  7. Check everything after replacing the battery terminal correctly. Make sure the terminal is secured on the battery and shut the hood. Start the vehicle and make sure everything works correctly.
