How to Install a Hunter Douglas Silhouette
Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds offer much functionality and beauty to any room. With two sheer fabric layers and fabric vanes suspended between the sheer layers with the ability to rotate, it is easy to control privacy and lighting. By following the installation process, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of your blinds for years to come.
Mounting the Installation Brackets
Determine what type of mount you will be using—an inside mount is used when the shade fits inside the window opening and an outside mount is used with shades wider than the window.
Inside Mount
- Measure two to three inches in from the window jamb for each bracket and mark. Additional brackets should be evenly spaced between the end brackets.
- Break off the top tab on the installation brackets. Bottom tabs may be removed if they are an obstruction.
- Center the dual rotator support bracket on the panel split. The middle brackets should be three inches from the dual rotator support bracket.
- Select the proper depths for your screws and mark the screw holes. These depths will vary based on the type of headrail and vane size.
- Check that the mounting surface is level and drill holes for the screws.
- Attach the brackets to the mounting surface with the two hex head screws provided.
Outside Mount
- Position the headrail over the window so that it is centered. Mark where the ends of the headrail are on the wall.
- Measure two to three inches in from the ends of the headrail and mark for each bracket. Additional brackets should be evenly spaced between the end brackets.
- Break off both the top and bottom tabs on the installation brackets.
- Center the brackets on the marks and mark where the screw holes should be.
- Drill holes for the screws using a 3/32” drill bit.
- Attach the brackets to the mounting surface with the two hex head screws provided.
Attaching the Back Cover (Optional)
- Cut off the top tabs on the back cover brackets and on the installation brackets.
- Snap the back cover bracket prongs into the installation bracket holes on the back.
- Place the cover into the back cover brackets.
- Trim away any overhang to fit the width of the window.
Installing the Shading
- Remove the protective covering on the top of the fabric covered headrail, leaving the rest of the covering in place.
- Face the shading toward you (you should be looking at the colored fabric).
- Place the headrail into the installation brackets, making sure that the edge is fitted between the lever and bracket.
- Push the headrail into the brackets until audible clicks are heard. You can pull on the headrail to make sure it is correctly in place.
- Remove the additional protective covering from the headrail.
Attaching the Universal Cord Tensioner
- Slide the cord tensioner so that it is at the bottom of the cord loop.
- Place a screwdriver, punch, or awl into the screw hole at the bottom of the tensioner.
- Use the tool to move the screw hole to the indicator line, releasing the safety mechanism.
Attaching the Dust Cover (Optional for Outside Mounts)
- Trim the dust cover to fit the width of the window.
- Remove the backing on one side of the hook and loop fastener dots and attach them to the installation brackets.
- Peel off the paper from the other side of the dots.
- Center and press the dust cover down on the dots to secure.
