How to Install Upper Kitchen Wall Cabinets
Whether you are planning a remodeling project for your kitchen, or simply wish to add additional storage space in your home, you can install upper kitchen wall cabinets without the assistance of a professional. Before installing these cabinets, you must first mark the location of the studs on the wall so you know where to secure them.
Things You Will Need:
- Pencil
- Stud finder
- Tape measure
- Cabinetry
- Carpenter’s level
- Power drill
- Screws
- Measure the distance from the countertop and mark the distance on the wall so that it is 15 inches of space. This is going to be the bottom of the cabinets.
- Install the cleats on the studs where you have marked it on the wall. Each cabinet set is different, so measure the distance by the width of the cabinets to determine how far apart to install each cleat.
- Attach the cabinets to the walls beginning on the left side of the wall and moving towards the right. Before moving to the next cabinet section, make sure that you use a level to make sure each portion is parallel with the floor and countertop.
- Secure each cabinet section from the inside of the cabinets. You will need to use a power drill to secure the interior of each corner to the studs in the wall. You will need to drill one screw in each corner, two at the top and two at the bottom.
- Continue to attach each section of cabinets to the wall in the same manner as the first, making sure that each is plumb in leveling.
- Attach the doors to each cabinet according to the manufacturer’s instructions after modifying the finish. For instance, if you choose to stain the cabinetry, you will need to do this before attaching the doors. On the other hand, if the cabinets are already finished, simply attach the doors.
