How to Get Rid of Old Appliances
Eventually appliances stop working or get replaced by a newer and better model. These old appliances can be heavy, costly and difficult to get rid of. Most trash services will not pick up an appliance. So, what can be done? Here are some ways to get rid of old appliances:
Take your appliance to a recycling center or salvage yard. Many salvage yards pay at least $10 for each appliance.
If your appliance is still working, donate it to Goodwill, Salvation Army or other local charity. You can receive a tax credit for this donation.
Call your trash service provider and ask if they can pick up the appliance. Some companies are able to provide this service at an additional cost.
Ask the store where you are purchasing your new appliance to remove your old appliance. Many stores provide this service for free.
If you have an eligible refrigerator, many power companies will pick it up and credit your account $35.
Sell your appliance or give it away by placing an ad on Craigslist, in a local newspaper or on a community board.
