How to Flip Video in iMovie

You may need to flip a video to change the impact of the visual image. If your video has movement on it and it moves right to left you may need to change it to left to right since that is more natural to the human eye.

Things you will need:



  • Computer

  • iMovie 09



  1. Open the iMovie software. 

  2. Open the project you want to work with. You can achieve this by clicking on the "File" top in the top left hand corner and selecting the "Open" tab. Once you have done this you will need to search for the project that you want and double click on it to open it.

  3. Drag the intended clip into the project. You must have the clip in the project to be able to flip it.

  4. Move the cursor over the clip. Once you do this a menu with appear that has a gear on it.

  5. Click the "Gear" and a pull-down menu will appear. On the pull-down menu select "Clip Adjustments" by make a double click with your mouse.

  6. Click on the "None" button that is next to the "Video Effect." You can click on the "None" button once the "Inspector" window appears.

  7. Click the "Flip" tab. You can move your mouse over the clip to go back and fourth through the clip with the effects applied. This will let you preview what it will look like before making the adjustments.

  8. Click the "Done" button on the "Inspector" window that will appear again. The button is in the lower right hand corner and it will need to be pressed when the project is finished. Once you have done this you can watch your video with the changes that you have just made to it.
