How to Fix a Blown Speaker

Is your stereo only playing out of one speaker? You may have blown one of the speakers in your system. A blown speaker can be fixed if the damage is at a minimum. If replacement parts are required, they can be found by searching for your specific model on the Internet.

How to Fix a Blown Speaker




  1. By using the equalizer on your stereo, listen to each speaker to see which one is not working properly.

  2. After you determine which speaker is blown unplug the speaker from the stereo.

  3. Remove the screws that attach the speaker to the case.

  4. Gently remove the speaker from the case.

  5. Pay close attention and look for loose connections.

  6. Look closely at the cone. Most of the time a tear or hole in the cone is what has blown the speaker

  7. By using tape or glue, repair the cone.

  8. If there is no damage to the cone inspect the voice coil for damage.

  9. If there is a break in the voice coil no sound will come from the speaker.

  10. If the voice coil is damaged it will have to be replaced.
