How to Find the Status of an Education Loan
It is not always the easiest thing to find out the status of an education loan. Student loans help some students to be able to attend colleges and universities. Filling out the application is just the first step. Use the Internet to help you find out the status of your loan.
- Fill out an online application for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Make sure it is the government site so you will not be charged for this service. They are other similar sites that charge to fill out a student loan application.
- Check the status of your FAFSA application after a week or two to allow for processing. Once on the FAFSA website, click the Follow-Up link to provided, and then click the "Next" button.
- Fill out the information that is requested. You will need to enter you Social Security Number, first and last name, date of birth and the application year. Once done, click on "Submit."
- Look next to the "Current Status" and the date your student loan application was processed to find and review your student loan status.
- Retrieve your award letter once your loan application has been proceed. Note the award letter will be sent to the financial aid office of your college or university. The loans that you are eligible for are listed on the awards letter.
- Talk with a financial aid loan officer at your school. Let them know the amount of money that you want to borrow in loans based upon your award letter. The financial aid loan officer will then process your student loan.
- Allow time for your school to receive the payment from your loan provider. If you have extra money left over from your loan, you will receive an excess check after a few weeks of school.
