Choosing a great hair stylist is very important to African-American women. Not just anyone can cut and style hair. There are certain skills most women look for in a hair stylist when choosing to go to one. Most women want a stylist that knows exactly what they are doing, and have experience with styling others hair.


  • Check with friends and family members to find out their hair stylist. Sometimes you can find the very best stylist by going to someone that a friend has been using.



  • Look through the yellow pages for a hair stylist. Once you find one that interests you, give them a call to find out about their skills. Consider visiting the salon before allowing them to do your hair. You can observe other clients and find out if they are leaving the salon happy.



  • Drive around town to look for hair salons. Many times you can spot a good salon while driving through town. If you see a lot of cars out in the parking lot and the salon looks busy. You just may have found a great stylist. Be sure to stop and go in to find out about the salon and the stylists that works there.
