How to Find a Recycling Center

Recycling is an important way for people to conserve the earth's natural resources. It is important that we recycle and reuse materials such as paper, plastic and aluminum. Many towns offer curbside recycling services. If your town does not offer this service, find a recycling center in the local area and drop off your recyclable materials.

  1. Determine whether or not your municipality offers a curbside recycling service. Many municipalities offer this service. If you are new to the area, contact the local city hall and inquire about trash and recycling pick-up services. In most cases, recyclables must be packaged correctly in order to be picked up using a curbside service. If you find that your town does offer curbside recycling, be sure to follow all packaging and preparation instructions.

  2. Inquire about a local recycling center. If your municipality does not offer curbside recycling, ask whether or not the town representative can provide you with the name and address of a recycling center in the area. The town may have its own recycling center that can handle resident drop-offs, or there may be a recycling center nearby for residents to use.

  3. Search the Internet. There are many different online resources, such as Earth911, which are dedicated to providing information regarding recycling. Earth911 provides a directory of recycling centers throughout the nation. Simply enter your address, including zip code, and you will be informed of the name, address and location of recycling centers in the local area.

  4. Contact the recycling center by telephone to confirm their operating hours and instructions prior to dropping off your recyclables.
