How to Find Out Your School District
If you have moved to a new area or have a child starting school, you will need to know your school district. Many schools will send this information in letters that are mailed out before school starts. If your school did not send a letter or you misplaced it, you can use several other methods to find out your school district.
- Find the phone number for your board of education. You can find this number in your local phone book. Call the board of education. Ask them if they can help you find your school district. Give them your exact street address, city, state and zip code.
- Talk with other parents in your neighborhood. Ask each of them which school district they are in. You may also ask them for suggestions on which schools in the district are the best.
- If you have just moved to the area, you can ask your realtor which school district your home is located in. This is a common question for realtors, so they will more than likely be able to provide an accurate answer.
- Use an online school district finder. Perform an Internet search with the phrase "school district finder" and go to the website. Type your address into the school district finder search box and your school district will be displayed in the search results. Many school district finders offer maps to help you find the school that is the closest to your home.
