How to Find Inexpensive Home Furnishings

Furnishing a home can be extremely expensive due to the high prices of furniture and all of the different pieces needed to complete a house. Couches, tables and chairs can add up to have a hefty price tag. However, there are some tricks that will allow you to furnish your house for less money and still have it looking its best.

  • Take advantage of the scratch and dent section at your local furniture store. Many times there are high quality items with only a minor scratch or dent that can easily be covered with a doily. These pieces are usually drastically marked down, enabling you to purchase a high quality furnishing for little money.

  • Shop during the sales. Many furniture stores have Labor Day, Fourth of July and other holiday specials for you to take advantage of.

  • Look in department stores. Stores such as Walmart, Target and Kmart have inexpensive furniture that still looks high quality.

  • Search at local garage sales. Sometimes you can find items for free or close to practically nothing if you are willing to move the furniture yourself.

  • Use websites such as Craigslist to search for furniture for sale near your location. Craigslist has a section strictly for furniture listings, but the free section may also turn up some great home furnishing deals as well.

  • Peruse your local newspaper by searching in the furniture section of the classifieds. This is also a great resource to look for garage sales. Check with your newspaper to see if they have an online version to make searching even easier.

  • Look on bulletin boards at grocery stores, libraries and community centers. Sometimes people will post flyers advertising their furniture for sale.
