How to Do Pond Lighting
Pond lights make a huge difference in the appearance of your pond. There are many different kinds of pond lighting. Unless you are capable of wiring lights into a grounding electrical box, you may want to go for the battery or solar run lights. These come in a variety of different types.
1. Choose the right bulb.
LED lighting is the best for pond lighting. They last for years and produce a bright light that will glow even in deep ponds.
2. Shop for wattage, not size.
When shopping for pond lighting, bigger is not always better. The size doesn't matter, the wattage does. If your pond is deep you will want a higher wattage bulb so the light will break through the surface.
3. Mounting your pond lights.
Generally speaking, pond lights are not heavy enough to sink to the bottom of your pond. Mounting each light unit to a brick or small piece of concrete will keep them in place. This can be done with alvanized steel concrete screws and a drill.
4. Placing your lights.
There is no right or wrong way to place pond lights. Simply place them where you want light to accent the pond. Stand back and look at the lighting. Move them around until you are satisfied with the placement.
