How to Dehydrate Food
Food dehydration is the process of removing water from food. Many people prefer to dehydrate their food because it is more fragrant and flavorful. It is fairly simple to do, but it has to be done properly because mold may form on the food if it is not dehydrated long enough or if the container it was stored in has moisture in it.
How to Dehydrate Food
1. Prepare the fruits and vegetables by washing and slicing them. If you are going to dehydrate meat, use lean meat and slice it thin for the best results.
2. Lay a paper furnace filter flat on the table and place the cut food pieces inside the grooves. Make sure your pieces are small enough so that they are not sticking over the edges.
3. Use as many filters as you need to hold all the food, but try not to use more than five.
4. Stack all the filters on top of each other and place an empty filter on top to enclose all the slices of food.
5. Lay a box fan flat on the floor with the front of the fan facing upward.
6. Set the stack of filters on top of the fan.
7. Use a bungee cord to secure the filters to the fan.
8. Stand the fan in an upright position.
9. Plug the fan in and set it on the highest setting and allow it to blow through the food for approximately three hours.
