How to Make a Free Personalized Online Memorial Website

How to Create an Online Memorial Tribute

Creating an online memorial tribute gives you a unique way to express love and share memories about a loved one that you have lost. Not only is an online memorial a good way to have friends and family involved in this tribute, it can also be cathartic to the one creating a memorial. The ability to write down and remember all the things that this person meant to you is very healing.

  1. Find a memorial website host. You may want to consider acquiring your own domain and building a memorial tribute there, however if web site design is not your forte, several online easy – to – use memorial websites exist to help you.

  2. Gather all information to include.  Biographical information such as birth date, date of death, birthplace, the deceased’s name and any other information you wish to include. You can add as much or as little information as you would like.

  3. Write out a tribute. This would be similar to a eulogy at a funeral. You can make this as detailed as you would like, and you can include anecdotes, memorable stories or any poems that mean something to you or to the decedent. This tribute that you place on the site will be viewed by many friends and family. You can be as personal and intimate as you like, just remember it will be publicly viewed.

  4. Encourage others to write about their memories. This can be an interactive site so that you, friends and family members can contribute any way that you all feel necessary. Stories can be shared. Links to Internet sites that the decedent liked to visit could also be included.

  5. Add pictures. Most memorial sites give you the opportunity to upload pictures or videos, which is a great way to capture memories of the past. Take pictures that others can relate to and at the same time pick those which are special to you.

  6. Upload music. There are several memorial sites, which allow you to upload WAV files or MP3 files to the memorial site. This personalizes it even more. Perhaps some of the music that played at the funeral, or a favorite song of the loved one.

  7. Hand out the website. Once you have completed your memorial tribute and you feel comfortable sharing it with family and friends, send out an e-mail with link to it.
