How to Clean Vinyl Shower Liner
A vinyl shower liner tends to get dirty looking and often ends up with mildew on the bottom half of the liner. It can get expensive to throw it away and buy a new one each time this happens. Rather than replace the whole liner, you can clean it and continue to use it until the need for replacement boils down to wear and tear.
- Remove your shower liner from the rod. It is much easier to clean if you work with it off of the shower rod.
- Fill your washing machine with warm water. Add laundry detergent and 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the washing machine.
- Place the vinyl liner and a couple of towels that also need washing in the washing machine.
- Use the gentle cycle and warm water setting on the washing machine to wash the towels and liner.
- Check the liner after the washing cycle has completed to ensure all of the mildew has been washed clean. If there is mildew remaining, wash the liner and towels again with laundry detergent and 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
- Keep washing your liner until it comes out clean.
- Place the liner and towels in the dryer to dry on low heat, or you can hang the liner up to dry. If you hang the liner up be sure it is spread out to avoid mildew.
- Wash your shower liner on a regular basis to prevent the regrowth of mildew. It is important to prevent mildew from growing on your shower liner, as mold and mildew can aggravate allergies and asthma for sensitive people.
