Materials Needed

- Memory card
- Put on an antistatic wristband before working on the computer. The wristband will go on your wrist and the other end should be attached to the computer. This will help ground your body and keep static electricity from building up on your body. The static electricity can also damage your computer.
- Turn off the computer and unplug it. Allow the computer to sit for 30 seconds before opening up the case. This will discharge the capacitors in the computer.
- Place the computer on a tabletop. Open the case on the computer. Some cases are secured with screws that can be unscrewed by hand. Unscrew the screws and remove the case.
- Look for the memory card sockets on the motherboard in the computer. There are two slots for the memory. One should already be in there. Use your computer manual if you are unable to find it.
- If you need to replace the one in there, unsnap the clips on the side of it and remove the memory card. Place the new memory card into position and secure it with the clips.
- If you are adding an additional memory card, simple place the memory card in the additional slot and secure it with the clips.
- Replace the casing and screws. Plug in your computer and turn it on. Most computers will not start again if the memory is not placed correctly or the wrong memory is installed.
