How to Celebrate Elementary School Graduation

Graduating from elementary school is a milestone for the student and the parents. It marks the passage from childhood into young adulthood, as well as an academic achievement. By celebrating the event, you give positive reinforcement to the student. This reinforcement encourages him to be successful throughout his scholastic career.

  • Throw a class party. Get with other parents to have a celebration for all the graduates. Plan a dance, swim party or an amusement park visit. Keep costs low so all graduating students can participate. Take pictures and give each graduate a CD of the photos as a keepsake.

  • Schedule a day trip for the group. Keep education in the forefront with a visit to a museum, historic site or national park. Be sure to have plenty of parents for chaperones. To keep the trip inexpensive, look for group discounts.

  • Have a family party. Family members will be proud of the graduate. Decorate with school pictures of the honoree. Designate an "achievement area" that displays the graduate's achievements, such as trophies and ribbons, report cards and artwork.

  • Plan a celebration day. Once school is out, take the graduate on a special one-on-one day. Plan the day together because the anticipation and planning are usually as much fun as the day itself. Eat at the student's favorite restaurant, and go somewhere special for dessert. Schedule activities of interest to the honoree, such as visiting a spa or watching a sports event. This day is an opportunity for spending quality time and trust building.
