An optic mouse is an updated type of computer mouse. The difference between this type of mouse and an older version of a computer mouse is that optical lasers are used to communicate movement of the mouse with a computer instead of a trackball. Buying one is easy they are available most anywhere.

  1. Check on the Internet for different stores in the local area to see if they sell an optic mouse.

  2. Pick a store and check to see which optic mouse is compatible with your computer system. Choose an optic mouse that offers plug and play connectivity. Plug and play means the item is plugged into the computer and the computer downloads the software that comes with the accessory. Some older systems may not meet the compatibility requirements for the software that is included with the mouse. Therefore, it is always important to check the mouse package for system requirements.

  3. Look over all of the mouse selections at the store to get a feel for the unit. Pick up the mouse and feel how heavy it is and see if it fits ok for your hand. Some components are larger while others are more compact to fit smaller hands or for travel. It is better to thoroughly look over each mouse in the store before purchasing.  This assures there is less chance of getting home with a mouse that does not meet your specifications.

  4. Purchase a good mouse pad before leaving the store to assure for better mobility and control of the optic mouse.

  5. Clean the computer mouse routinely to prevent any build up of dirt on the bottom of it or near the laser window. This will help to keep the optic mouse in good working condition for many years to come.
