How to Buy Legal Insurance
Legal insurance, also known as prepaid legal, is a service that allows you to pay for legal services before you need them. Once legal help is required, you make a “claim” on your legal insurance and receive help from a lawyer. Signing up is not difficult, but will require a sales pitch from a prepaid legal representative.
- Find a prepaid legal representative who does business in your area. Although almost all legal insurance is done through the company Legal Shield, you must buy the product through an individual representative. You can do this two different ways. You can look for a representative in the Yellow Pages. You can also search for one on the Internet. Unlike other types of insurance, you will not be able to buy a policy online. You will need to meet with a representative.
- Arrange a location to meet with the prepaid legal representative. Be prepared before the meeting. By doing a bit of research ahead of time, you can be confident in what type of plan you want to purchase. This will save you time and help you avoid the sales pitch that the representative will give. Choose the plan that gives you the most features for a price that you are comfortable with.
- Fill out all of the necessary paperwork and provide the representative with a method of payment that you can be billed monthly. Save your paperwork in a safe place. You will need to be able to access this paperwork later in the event that you would like to make a claim or discontinue your coverage.
