How to Become a Teacher in a Christian School

Teachers in Christian schools work with students to help them develop intellectually and spiritually. If you love to teach and have strong Christian beliefs, becoming a teacher in a Christian school may be the right option for you. However, like any other teaching job, you need patience, dedication and the right kind of education and training.

  1. Check the certification requirements. You must obtain the right training and be certified before you can be allowed to teach in a school. Certification requirements can vary from state to state, so contact your state's Department of Education or State Board of Education to find out their requirements.

  2. Complete the required training and educational program. Take the required courses to get your bachelor's degree. You may need to complete courses in the areas of psychology, teaching theory and classroom management as well as ethical and legal issues in education. You may be required to obtain your degree in education or a related field. Your state's Department of Education can provide you with information regarding course requirements and any additional programs or experience you are required to have before becoming a teacher in your state.

  3. Pass the certification exam. Prepare thoroughly for the certification exam; start early to study and become familiar with the exam format. This will help you to avoid any unnecessary stress. It is a good idea to obtain a study guide that can help you prepare and pass the exam. Contact your college counselor to obtain all the information you need about the exam including study guide. Alternatively, you can obtain these from the Board of Education in your state. Once you pass the exam, you will be issued your teacher certification which will allow you to teach in a Christian school.

  4. Look for teaching position in a Christian school. Submit your application for a teaching position to the Christian schools you are interested in teaching. Many schools provide their application online which you can complete and submit online or print out and mail after filling it out. Make sure you include supporting documents that may be required such as your college transcript, letters of recommendation and personal essay stating why you want to teach in a Christian school. You may also be required to submit your fingerprints for background check.
