How to Attach Hair Pieces

Hair extensions provide women the opportunity to adopt a different hairstyle appropriate for a first date or a formal wedding. The extensions are applied at home without waiting for an expensive hairdresser appointment. Extensions solve problems such as poor haircuts, split ends or a bad hair day. Short hair is comfortable and simple to style on a day-to-day basis, but there are occasions where longer hair is desirable and extensions make it possible.

  1. Choose the location on the head to attach the hair extensions. The position where the extensions are attached is determined by the length of the extensions. Longer extensions are typically placed higher on the head where they hang down at the desired level.

  2. Comb the hair back over the top of the head while creating a wide straight part in the hair. Pin the hair back to keep it out of the way.

  3. Hold the hair extension in place at the hairline immediately below the part with one hand.

  4. Slip the first hair clip, located along the top of the extension, into the hair on the head.

  5. Engage the clip into the hair by pressing moderately hard straight down on the clip until you hear it click, indicating it is engaged.

  6. Pull the slack out of the extension, keeping it aligned beneath the part, and engage the next hair clip into the hair: fasten the clip using the same procedure.

  7. Continue this process until the hair extension is fully clipped into the hair.

  8. Comb the hair above the part back over the side of the head and use a comb to blend it with the natural hair.

  9. Repeat the comb-over on the back and on the other side of the head by following the line of the same part in the hair. Add the remainder of the extensions necessary to complete the hairstyle using this same method.

  10. Comb out the hair and examine it from all angles to make certain it is in accordance with the style you desire.
