How to Arrange Office Furniture
Arranging office furniture properly can make the difference between a functional work space and a disjointed office where it's difficult to get work done. Choose a focal point and consider the light source when arranging the furniture in an office.
- Choose the office furniture to be used. A proper workspace, including a comfortable desk chair, can make the difference between a functional space to work and one that doesn't properly suit your needs.
- Move all furniture out of the room, including any rugs or carpet.
- Inspect the flooring and clean any stains or dark spots while the furniture is out of the room.
- Decide where the desk will be placed. Look around the office for the proper outlet space for laptop or desktop computers, as well as a printer, telephone, pencil sharpener, and any other electronics that will need to be plugged in. Choose an outlet that offers enough space or plug a power strip into the outlet that can handle the load.
- Consider the light source for the office. Will light primarily be coming in as natural light from the windows, or does a desk lamp or ceiling lamp provide most of the light? Arrange the lighting and the computer so that they are compatible; the light should not cast shadows on your workspace, nor should a glare be visible on the computer screen.
- Arrange shelves, file cabinets and other furniture within easy reach.
- Sit down at the desk and evaluate the arrangement.
