How To Make a Plumeria Necklace
The plumeria flower is indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands. It is most often seen in the leis or flower wreaths given to guests during their stay in Hawaii however can also be created into beautiful jewelry. Designed in many materials, gold, silver enamels, shells and clays its important to learn the proper way to create your plumeria jewelry.
- Cut five small circles from an oven baking or air-drying clay. Start with white and roll out to 1 inch in diameter. Then with a small circle cutter, cut the five pieces.
- Fuse the five pieces of clay together in the center region holding together with water and glue binder.
- Color using colored pastels or paints to color the flowers to resemble the lightly colored flower. Add the stamen and flower parts by adhering a long piece of clay and small balls. Paint a light yellow.
- Fuse the back of the flower, twist and pull on the clay to resemble the flower stem. Paint a light green and puncture a small hole for threading the jewelry.
- Bake the clay in the oven; this is craft oven-bake clay. You can also kiln bake using the proper clay and follow directions for manufacturing the flower.
- After flowers are baked and dried string with silk thread and add a silk clasp. These pieces are reminiscent of the Hawaiian Lei.
For other uses and styles you can change your materials to gold, silver or shells. The clay flower pieces can also be added to hair clips or jewelry boxes for pretty and unusual ornamentations or gifts.
