How To Get a Knot Out of a Necklace Chain
When necklaces are stored next to other pieces of jewelry, or are not hung properly, they can become knotted. A knot in your necklace will make it unable to be worn and could cause it to break easily. Knots can be frustrating and hard to undo, but they can be removed with a little patience and the right tools and techniques.
Step 1: Find a table or desk that offers a nearby bright light source. You will need to be able to see the knot well if you are going to untangle it.
Step 2: Carefully look over the necklace to determine where the knot is, and how it has become tangled. Notice if any parts of the knot look weaker than other parts.
Step 3: Apply some baby oil or another type of lubricant to the knot. This will help make the knot easier to work with and let the loops slip out easily.
Step 4: Insert a pin into the top loop of he not and gently pull it away from the rest of the necklace. Hold the necklace flat with your other hand while you are pulling the loop free.
Step 5: Once the first loop is out, insert the pin through another loop and pull it away from the rest of the knot. Repeat this process until each loop has been pulled out of the knot.
Step 6: When the knot has been removed, wash the necklace with warm water to rinse the oil away. Store the necklace so that it hangs straight down and it not near other necklaces, bracelets or chains. This will help prevent it from becoming tangled again.
