DIY Shoe Storage
Shoes piling up have the tendency to appear unsightly and unorganized. Luckily, shoe storage is easy to come by and can by made at home with a few materials and some time. You can suit your shoe storage needs by crafting a simple bookshelf shoe storage in the size you need.
Items You Need:
- Wooden Bookcase
- Long Nails
- Hammer
- Paint or Varnish
- Paint Brushes
- Baskets (optional)
Instructions:
- Purchase a wooden bookshelf or use one you already own. Bookshelves can be found at most multi-purpose stores, home stores and hardware stores. You can also look for one at garage sales, online, antique shops or used item shops. The bookcase can be large or small, wide or tall. Pick one that suits your home decor, style and the number of shoes you plan to store. The larger the bookcase, the more shoes can be stored.
- Find a place against a wall in your home or in your closet to set the bookcase. Put the bookcase flat against the wall on an even floor. Once it is in place, nail the bookcase to the wall using nails and a hammer. Thick, long nails work best to secure the bookcase to the wall. Place two nails per shelf in the bookcase on opposite sides.
- Paint the bookshelf a color that suits your taste and home decor using paint and paint brushes. You can paint it a solid color, add designs, or even add glitter and rhinestones. A paint made for wood works best. Another option is to sand and varnish the bookcase for a natural appearance or leave the bookcase as is. It you do paint or varnish the bookshelf, allow the paint enough time to completely dry before moving on to step 4.
- Place shoes on the shelves of the bookcase. You can fill the entire case or leave space in between the shoes. If the top of the bookshelf is flat, you can store shoes on the top of the bookcase as well. Another option is to place baskets on the shelves of the bookcase and fill the baskets with shoes.
