DIY Lumber Storage Racks

A lumber stotage rack is a great way to keep building materials safe from the weather and at the same time keep them organized. Many people choose the garage when building a storage rack for lumber. No matter where you build it, this job can be done in one day with supplies from a neighborhood hardware store.

Location


Before you start building the rack, you will need to pick out a location where the lumber can be stored out of the way. If you have a large garage, choose the wall with the least amount of foot traffic for your lumber rack. On the wall in a storage shed will also work perfect. Some people use an exterior wall to their home for storing lumber.


Rack Construction And Supplies


You will need a tape measure, screwgun, three inch wood screws, a circular saw and four two by four by eight food pieces of lumber. Cut two four foot sections of lumber. Find the studs behind your garage wall and make sure they are spaced atleast four feet apart. Mark these on the wall and stand a four foot section of lumber against each. Screw the lumber to the wall with atleast two screws on the top and two on the bottom. Cut two three foot sections and screw them onto the same lumber. Cut four two foot sections of two by four. Screw two of the pieces into the base of each upright section. Place the other two sections on the side. Cut two four foot sections and screw them in upright from the bottom section. Take the remaining two pieces of four feet lumber and attach them screwing sideways into the wood. start at the three foot section in the back as a resting point.
