DIY Kitchen Cabinet Doors Replacement
Replacing the doors on your kitchen cabinets is a simple project that can easily be accomplished in one afternoon. By replacing kitchen cabinet doors, you can update the look of your kitchen without a lot of effort or money. You can also use this method if a door is broken, scratched or stained beyond repair.
Things you will need:
- Replacement cabinet doors
- Screwdriver
- Router or drill press
- Choose what doors you will use to replace the old ones. You will need to pick out a style and a color. Choosing a different color for the doors will give your kitchen a two-tone look, or you can go with the same color as the rest of the cabinets.
- Disconnect the hinge on the old cabinet door by pulling on the lever. If your cabinets are an older style, you may need to use a screwdriver to unscrew the hinge from the inside of the cabinet. Pull the cabinet door away.
- Remove the hinge from the door with a screwdriver. Consider replacing the hinges if they are old or worn. You may want to consider getting locking hinges if you do not already have them installed. This newer style of hinges can be found in home improvement stores.
- Measure the distance of the drilled holes from the top and sides of the old door. This will be where you will need to drill the holes on the new door to ensure proper alignment.
- Drill the holes in the new door, following the placement you noted in step four.
- Install the hinges on the new door using a screwdriver. Place the hinges on the holes you drilled in step five.
- Hold the doors up to the cabinet and begin screwing the hinges back on to the inside of the cabinet. It is easiest to have someone help you hold the door up while attaching the hinges. Keep the hinges lined up with the original holes.
- Repeat until all desired kitchen cabinet doors have been replaced.
