Best Ways to Repair an RV Furnace

If you are frequent RV traveler, you must ensure that your furnace is operating properly. You may not know how to determine the problem or its cause. By understanding possible causes you can determine what to repair. The following are the best ways to repair a RV furnace.

  1. The Fan. If you have heat coming from the furnace, but the fan is not running first check your battery. If this is not the problem, ensure that you do not have a blown fuse and that your breaker is turned to the ON position. Determine if your thermostat is operating correctly. If the thermostat is operating correctly, you will need to replace your fan. If the thermostat is not working, you have to replace it.

  2. The Pilot Light. If your pilot light will not stay on or you cannot light it, check your propane tank. In order to light the pilot light your propane tank must be turned on and have gas in it. Check the gauge on your propane tank to determine if there is any gas in the tank. If you have gas and the propane tank is turned on and this does not fit the problem check the thermocouple. Ensure that this thermocouple is one eighth of an inch from the pilot light. The flame should also appear blue with a small amount of yellow. If this is not the case, you should replace the thermocouple immediately.

  3. Insufficient Air Flow. If you do not feel heat coming from your furnace, the problem is more than likely insufficient air flow. First ensure that the regulators are on and working properly. If this is not the problem, check the propane valve. Both the regulars and the propane valve will cause insufficient air flow. Have them replaced if necessary.
